seminar
Based on our book and research on contemporary gendered representations of motherhood and related theoretical, feminist and political discourses, we will focus on the complex interrelations between experience, ideology and practice. We will also seek to identify the signs of crisis that are fluidizing, redefining and transforming images and stereotypes of gendered motherhood and care in the context of the ongoing privatization of social welfare. We will also discuss theoretical feminist conceptions and analyses of motherhood and reproduction through a historical and political prism. From this perspective, we will also attempt to access the impact of contemporary feminist political debates on the ways in which motherhood is perceived, categorized, and experienced. To this end, we will also examine the visible or latent forms of oppression and class, gender, and racial hierarchies that are articulated around motherhood in times of great ideological polarization and normalized neocolonialism.
